Takachiho Gorge
高千穂峡
Waterfalls & Gorges · Miyazaki
Located in Takachiho Town, Miyazaki Prefecture, Takachiho Gorge is a narrow basalt canyon carved by the Gokase River through lava from an ancient Mount Aso eruption, with columnar cliff walls reaching 80 to 100 meters. Its centerpiece, Manai Falls, drops 17 meters directly into the gorge and is ranked among Japan's top 100 waterfalls. Visitors can rent rowboats to glide along the emerald water beneath the cliffs, making it one of Kyushu's most iconic scenic spots.
