Located in front of the Kumamoto Prefectural Government Office in Chuo Ward, Kumamoto City, this bronze statue depicts Monkey D. Luffy, captain of the Straw Hat Pirates from Eiichiro Oda's One Piece. Unveiled in 2018, it was the first of ten statues placed across Kumamoto Prefecture as part of the ONE PIECE Kumamoto Revival Project, funded by Oda, a Kumamoto native, to support recovery after the 2016 earthquakes. The statue has become a pilgrimage site for manga and anime fans from around the world.
