Spanning the Naruto Strait between Awaji Island in Hyogo Prefecture and Naruto in Tokushima Prefecture, the Onaruto Bridge is a 1,629-meter suspension bridge opened in 1985. Beneath it, powerful tidal currents create the famous Naruto whirlpools, which can reach up to 20 meters across and can be seen from boats or from a glass-floored walkway inside the bridge.
