Located on Mount Minobu in Minobu, Yamanashi Prefecture, Kuon-ji is the head temple of Nichiren Buddhism, founded in 1274 by the monk Nichiren himself. It is famous for its steep stairway of 287 steps, its five-story pagoda and its magnificent weeping cherry trees that bloom in early spring.
