Historic Sites · Nagasaki
Located in Saikai, Nagasaki Prefecture, inside Ishiharadake Forest Park, the Ishiharadake Fort is a stone fortress completed in 1899 to protect the entrance to Sasebo naval port. Never used in battle, its moss-covered stone walls and tunnels swallowed by the forest have earned it the nickname of Nagasaki's Laputa, after the Studio Ghibli film.
