Located on Tsushima Island, Nagasaki Prefecture, near Mount Izu, Kaijin Shrine, also known as Watatsumi Shrine, is dedicated to the sea deities Toyotama-hime and Hikohohodemi no Mikoto, whose marriage is said to have taken place here. Ranked as the highest shrine of the former Tsushima province and classified as a Beppyo shrine for its historical significance, it is believed to be among the oldest shrines in Japan. Its torii gates extending toward the sea are often compared to those of the famous Itsukushima Shrine.
