Located in Izumi Ward, Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture, the Sendai Daikannon is a gleaming white statue of Kannon, the goddess of mercy, standing 100 meters tall above a residential neighborhood. Completed in 1991, it is one of the tallest statues in the world, and visitors can take an elevator inside to see Buddhist statues on each floor and small windows looking out over the city.
