Located atop a hill near Dogo Onsen in Matsuyama, Ehime Prefecture, Isaniwa Shrine is a magnificent Shinto sanctuary constructed in the rare Hachiman-zukuri architectural style, designated as an Important Cultural Property of Japan. Rebuilt in 1667 by the local Matsudaira clan, the shrine features a striking vermilion-lacquered complex adorned with intricate gold leaf details, historic samurai armor offerings, and panoramic views over the city.
