Located on Nishinoshima in the Oki Islands of Shimane Prefecture, Takuhi Shrine is an ancient mountain sanctuary whose main hall is built partially inside a natural sea cave on Mount Takuhi. Historically worshipped as a patron deity for maritime safety and navigation by sailors on the Sea of Japan, the shrine features classic Edo-period architecture and holds the title of the oldest surviving shrine building in the Oki archipelago.
