Located in Naha, Okinawa Prefecture, Shuri Castle was the royal palace and political center of the Ryukyu Kingdom from 1429 to 1879, blending Japanese, Chinese, and Southeast Asian architectural influences. Though its main hall has burned down and been rebuilt several times, most recently after a 2019 fire, the site remains part of the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Gusuku Sites of the Ryukyu Kingdom. Its vermilion Seiden hall and Shureimon Gate stand as enduring symbols of Okinawan cultural identity.
