Sakurai Futamigaura

Shrines · Fukuoka
Located in Itoshima, Fukuoka Prefecture, Sakurai Futamigaura is a sacred coastline within Genkai Quasi-National Park, tied to nearby Sakurai Shrine where the deities Izanagi and Izanami are enshrined. Its twin Meoto Iwa, or wedded rocks, joined by a massive shimenawa rope replaced each spring, rise from the sea about 150 meters offshore, framed by a pure white torii gate whose base submerges at high tide. Ranked among Japan's 100 best sunset views, it is especially renowned as a symbol of marital harmony.
