Located in Nikko, Tochigi Prefecture, Mount Nantai is a 2,486-meter stratovolcano rising above Lake Chuzenji, worshipped for centuries as a sacred mountain. The summit belongs to Futarasan Shrine, whose climbing season opens every May, and the view from the top over Lake Chuzenji and the Nikko mountains is spectacular.
