Located in the Makomanai Takino Cemetery in Sapporo, Hokkaido, the Hill of the Buddha is a 13.5-meter stone Buddha designed by architect Tadao Ando. The statue is surrounded by a hill planted with around 150,000 lavender plants, so that only its head peeks out, and visitors reach it through a long concrete tunnel, which gives it its nickname, Atama Daibutsu.
